How it works

1. Pick an instrument — piano, guitar, strings, winds, or brass — and a difficulty.
2. Each round plays two notes, ascending or descending (it's a true 50/50, so you can't guess the direction).
3. Enter both notes in the order they played, on a staff or a piano keyboard. Replay the notes as many times as you need.
4. A game is five rounds, and a round only counts if you get both notes right — a perfect game is 5/5.

Find the notes, not just the name

Most interval trainers are multiple choice: hear two notes, click "major third." That teaches you labels. Here you have to locate both actual pitches — which is what you really do when you transcribe a melody, play by ear, or check your intonation against another player. Naming the interval becomes a byproduct of genuinely hearing it.

Difficulty that grows with you

• Easy — notes stay inside an 8-note major scale.
• Medium — a full 13-note chromatic octave.
• Hard — your instrument's entire range.
• Custom — choose your own range, e.g. just the octave you're working on this week.

Tips for learning intervals faster

• Start on Easy. The major scale limits the choices, so your ear learns scale degrees before tackling chromatic notes.
• Sing what you hear before you answer. If you can hum both notes, you've already done the hard part.
• Use anchor songs. Tie each interval to a melody you know, in both directions — the first two notes of a tune you can recall instantly.
• Practice a little, daily. Five-round games are short on purpose; the app tracks your daily streak.
