Privacy Policy
Hear Every Note is a free, browser-based ear training site. This page explains what data the site collects, why, and what your choices are.

Who we are
Hear Every Note is operated at heareverynote.com. For any question about this policy or your data, email [email protected].
What we collect, and when
You can play every training mode without an account, and without giving us any personal information. We only collect data you choose to provide:
- Account sign-in (optional). If you create an account to save scores across devices, we ask for your email address so we can send you a one-time sign-in code. We store the email address and your chosen username. We do not send marketing email, and we never sell or share your email address.
- Game results. If you are signed in, your game scores and completed daily challenges are stored so we can show your stats and, if you place, display your username and score on the public leaderboards. Your username is the only identifying detail shown publicly.
- Contact form. Messages sent through our contact page (name, email, subject, message) are stored so we can reply to you. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that submissions come from a person rather than a bot.
- Anonymous visit counts. Once per browser session, the site sends a single empty ping so we can count visits by country. The ping carries no cookies, no identifiers, and nothing about you; the country comes from Cloudflare's edge network on the server side.
If you play without signing in, your scores and preferences are stored only in your own browser (local storage) and never reach our servers.
Cookies and local storage
- Session cookie. When you sign in, we set one cookie containing a random session token so you stay signed in. It lasts up to 180 days and is deleted when you sign out. We set no other first-party cookies.
- Local storage. The site keeps your settings (chosen instrument, difficulty, and similar preferences) and offline game data in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device.
- Offline caching. As an installable web app, the site caches its own files and instrument sounds in your browser so it loads fast and works offline. You can clear this at any time from your browser settings.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads that keep the site free. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of many third-party vendors' cookies at www.aboutads.info.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before any personalized ads are shown, through Google's certified consent management platform. You can decline or change your choice at any time.
Third-party services
The site runs on a small set of infrastructure providers:
- Cloudflare hosts the site, stores account and leaderboard data, and provides the Turnstile bot check on the contact form. Cloudflare processes visitor IP addresses as part of serving and securing the site.
- Google AdSense serves advertising as described above.
We do not use third-party analytics trackers, social media pixels, or fingerprinting of any kind.
Data retention and deletion
Account data (email, username, scores) is kept while your account is active. Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request. To delete your account and its data, or to ask what we hold about you, email [email protected] from the address on the account and we will take care of it.
Children
The site is a general-audience music education tool. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; the site is fully usable without an account. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and its "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
